Infrastructure & Transportation

In 2008, Macao hosted 22.9 million visitors. The majority of these visitors arrived by ground transportation or ferry.

In 2007, Las Vegas Sands Corp. opened and operated multiple new transportation services including:

  • The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel buses operating direct to Cotai Strip®
  • Cotai Strip® CotaiJet™ - the fastest ferries in Macao waters

Cotai Strip® CotaiJet™ and Venetian buses provide an outstanding travel experience to complement the expectation guests will have for their first time on Cotai Strip®.

Macao's international airport also provides direct air services to all major cities in Asia including Shanghai, Beijing, and ten other cities in China as well as direct flights to Bangkok, Manila, Hanoi and Taipei, just to name a few.

In anticipation of the growth in Macao's tourism industry, numerous infrastructure improvements and expansions are already in place; or are at various stages of development including:

  • Expansion of airport terminal: By 2011, the Macao International Airport will double its capacity from 6 million visitors per annum to 12 million
  • Proposed Hong Kong - Zhuhai - Macao Bridge that will reduce road travel time from Central HK to Macao from 4.5 hours to only 40 minutes
  • Proposed Macao Light Rail project that will link the ferry terminal with key locations in Macao
  • Guangzhou - Zhuhai -High Speed Railway that will reduce travel times from 2 hours to between 40 and 50 minutes
